Ride Overview

This epic ride focuses on the magic of winter in the Arctic Circle and the magic of the Northern Lights.   We are thrilled that our guides have intentionally created a more open program to take into account the weather conditions (in case you missed it earlier – it’s winter in the actual Arctic Circle).   We aim to do a lot of riding in the snow and under the Northern Lights. The trips are shorter than our summer routes due to the low temperatures and the waning daylight.

When you stay at the very comfortable guesthouse, you have the best chance of experiencing the Northern Lights.  The farm has open views to the north and the Northern Lights oval.  With the Arctic Ocean just outside, there is little or no light pollution to dampen the experience…….truly exceptional……

This is a trip for those who want to experience the Arctic winter, have some fun rides (walking only) in the snow and of course lots of Northern Lights.

Day 1: Sunday - Arrival and Northern Lights Tour

Check in after 16:00 at the guesthouse. You’ll be shown to your room where you can settle in and enjoy the beautiful view. Perhaps you’d like to take a walk on the white beach, be it sandy or snowy, just 100 metres from our guesthouse, and maybe you’ll meet the horses grazing nearby.

Dinner in the restaurant, where you’ll be introduced to traditional dishes made from fresh, local ingredients. You’ll meet your guide for the week. We’ll go through the week’s programme together and you’ll get to know the history of the farm and the restaurant.

Right away, on the first evening we aim to have a Northern Lights ride. You’ll be introduced to the horses and stables, and will learn more about the history of our area. We start around 10pm and plan to be back at the stables by midnight. The tour will hopefully take place in moonlight accompanied by the Northern Lights. We’ll stay awake for a few more hours to experience more of everything if the conditions are right - fingers crossed!

Day 2: Monday - Trip to Vinjestranda

We have a slightly late breakfast as we were up late last night. But then, at 11am we start our journey towards Vinjestranden. If conditions allow, we’ll ride across Vikingveien and the nature reserve before we enjoy a light lunch at our little local shop before riding home in the snow.

Hopefully we can test different gaits in deeper snow with our horses and have some real snow fun!

In the evening we invite you to a delicious dinner in the restaurant and then after dinner, we’ve heated up our beachfront sauna for you. For those truly adventurous folk (and why not - here you are in the actual Arctic Circle!) why don’t you enjoy a swim in the Arctic Ocean or maybe make a fun snow angel in the snow?
Tonight you have another chance to experience the Northern Lights, either from our restaurant, sauna or the guesthouse where you are staying

Day 3: Tuesday: Aalan Farm and Borgvåg

After a lovely breakfast in the restaurant, we’ll mount up take our horses to Vestvågøy. The ride is mainly on gravel roads out to Borgvåg before turning round and riding to Aalan Farm where we’ll be served a delicious homemade lunch at this award-winning goat farm.

After lunch, you'll meet the goats and taste their famous cheeses - a true delight.

In the evening you can enjoy dinner in the restaurant and then after dinner, we suggest a short walk down to the beach to experience the Northern Lights even better than right from the house because it's away from the ambient light.

If the weather permits, we’ll make a bonfire.

Day 4: Wednesday: Explore Lofoten and snowshoeing

Enjoy a lovely breakfast again and then today we’re going to let our horses rest and we’ll make an excursion to Henningsvær. It’s a cozy fishing village, around 30 minutes’ drive. It’s possible to visit the various galleries, shops with local crafts and more.

We’ll have lunch at one of the fish restaurants before heading back to guesthouse in the afternoon.

Another great dinner in the restaurant and then after dinner, we’ll go snowshoeing in search of the Northern Lights. We’ll bring headlamps and hike up the mountain Hoven to get the best view!

Day 5: Thursday and last dinner in Naustet

After a slightly later breakfast, since we did some Northern Lights hunting the evening before, we will head to Eggum and take a scenic half-day trip along the coast of Vestvågøy.

Since this is the last evening, we invite you to a tasting dinner at our boathouse by the beach. Hopefully, the Northern Lights will join us for a light show again during the meal. If the weather is too harsh, we will switch to our restaurant or guesthouse.

Day 6: Friday: Farewell breakfast and departure

One last lovely breakfast before you check out at 12 p.m.

Departing, you'll bring home unforgettable memories of the Arctic winter and amazing riding adventures
