The story begins in 1752, when Tubac was established as a Spanish presidio—one of Arizona’s earliest European settlements and a vital frontier outpost during Spanish colonization. Just a few decades later, in 1789, Don Toribio de Otero was awarded a Spanish land grant that would become the foundation of the region’s thriving ranching culture. For nearly 150 years, the Otero family operated one of Southern Arizona’s most prominent cattle ranches, helping shape the area’s agricultural heritage and pioneering spirit.
This is your incredible chance to ride through the lush cottonwood groves and rolling landscapes of the Santa Cruz River Valley, hike scenic desert trails, tee off on the resort’s award-winning 27-hole championship golf course, or wander the charming artist village of Tubac before exploring the historic Tumacácori Mission. Tubac entered a new era in 1959, when Roy and Amelia Kreiberg recognized the extraordinary beauty and historic significance of the former Otero Ranch. Joined by investors including Hollywood legend Bing Crosby, they transformed the working cattle ranch into the iconic Tubac Golf Resort. The championship course, designed by celebrated golf architect Robert “Red” Lawrence, helped establish Tubac as one of Arizona’s premier luxury destinations, attracting celebrities and travelers seeking an unforgettable Southwestern escape. Then, in 2002, the resort embarked on an extensive restoration and expansion, carefully preserving its remarkable history while enhancing it into the world-class destination it is today. Historic features remain woven throughout the property, from the charming Hacienda-style guest rooms to the Stables Ranch Grille, once the original Otero Ranch horse stables.

Sample Weekly Schedule
Sunday
After breakfast, you can join us for a morning horseback ride.
Our horses have the afternoon off, so we’ll have lunch and you can play a round of golf or join us for 3D archery, followed by cocktail hour and dinner.
Monday
Explore the Juan Bautista de Anza Trail right from Tubac Golf Resort & Spa. This scenic trail follows the Santa Cruz River, offering peaceful desert views, local wildlife, and a connection to Arizona’s rich history.
Tuesday
Start the day with breakfast followed by a horseback ride, and then archery before lunch.
Choose an afternoon round of golf, a horseback ride or cattle work in the arena.
Before cocktail hour and dinner, we’ll offer a tortilla making class.
Wednesday
After breakfast, you can saddle up for a half day ride with lunch enjoyed on the trail; or choose another local excursion with a trip to the historic Tumacácori Mission or a visit to the artist village of Tubac and Presidio State Park.
Then we’ll return to the ranch for cocktail hour and dinner.
Thursday
Start the day with a ride to a scenic viewpoint where we’ll enjoy breakfast out on the trail, then test your aim on our 3D archery course.
After lunch, you can choose to play a round of golf, take a horseback ride or enjoy some instructed cattle work in the arena.
We’ll give some roping lessons on the lawn before cocktail hour and dinner.
Friday
Following breakfast, join us for a horseback ride or a guided nature hike.
Plan an afternoon tee time or join us for another horseback ride in the unique landscapes of the Santa Cruz River Valley.
Later in the afternoon we’ll try our hand at some axe throwing before cocktail hour and dinner.
Saturday
After a hearty breakfast, take a horseback ride followed by 3D archery.
Following lunch, schedule an afternoon round of golf, or saddle up for another ride or instructed cattle work.
Then join us for axe throwing before cocktail hour and dinner.
