Andalusia – the area alone evokes images of vast and unspoiled countryside dominated by the majestic Sierra Nevada Mountains which contain the highest peaks on the Spanish mainland. It is where all of Spain’s stereotypes meet: bullfighters, beaches, flamenco dancing, cave houses, fiestas, and tapas are all in abundance.
Rich in history, this area is an incredible cultural patchwork. The Romans built cities here, the Moors stayed here longer than in any other area of in-habitation and built a resplendent palace in Granada. In addition, the closeness to the Mediterranean and its altitude account for the great diversity of the indigenous flora and fauna found on the hillsides – the latter including golden eagles and some rare butterflies.
This area is also well known for its troglodyte caves which were long inhabited homes and are still not only visible but livable yet today. You will ride noble Andalusians and Andalusian crosses as you explore this rugged yet bucolic countryside.
