Argentina: a land of horses, born and built on horseback. Come and enjoy the uniqueness of this country. The Argentine Pampas are the heartland of this bucolic country. Located in easy proximity to Buenos Aires, they are the perfect destination for someone with a few days or a week to spare. Estancia Santa MarÌa is a true working ranch at the core of the Argentine Pampas. It is a 3,000 acre Estancia, located 150 miles outside Buenos Aires. The Estancia is dedicated to Argentine horse breeding and livestock.
The horses ridden each day are from the best bloodlines in Argentina and they have the ribbons and the trophies to prove it! Rides each day consist of exploring the expansive estancia with an option to help the gauchos in their everyday work. Join them in a cattle drive and give picture yourself hooting and hollering like Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. Enjoy the excellent local cuisine, comfortable accommodations and tasteful decoration. Each evening you will relax at the manor house over a glass of wonderful Argentine wine while your traditional Argentine barbecue dinner is prepared. It is a perfect end to a fun day of riding.

With the help of your guide you will be introduced to the Criollo, the Argentine native horse breed and meet your horse for the rest of the stay. You will ride the surrounding countryside of the Estancia to get acquainted to your horse and learn about the daily activities at the Estancia.
A hearty Argentine welcome dinner awaits you in the evening. Argentina is known worldwide for its wine production and each night during your stay you will be enjoying a different wine from its terroirs. Your hosts have prepared a special selection which includes some of the world renowned Argentine Malbecs.
You will have the chance to enjoy the riding as well as the ranch activities: During your stay you will be riding Argentine bred horses on the famous Pampas grasslands, wonderful long canters on the plains and the chance to explore the quaint and charming villages throughout the area await you.
The gauchos (local cowboys) will be eager to teach you the “secrets” of cattle work and horse breeding. You will enjoy both the horseback and ranch activities at the Estancia over the next few days, including:
- Riding along the El Gato river banks. This portion of wilderness will let you see how the Pampas were originally, long before the estancias came into being.
- Conventional cattle work, cattle driving and barrel racing available for all who want to learn or practice.
- The opportunity to drive 19th century carriages.
- On a longer day you will ride past neighboring Estancias only to make a stop under the shade of the trees to enjoy a lunch made in the traditional Argentine barbecue style.
- You will explore the area and villages that are typical of historic Argentina, such as the very small town of Almada. The locals gather at the bar and are always glad to have visitors and make new friends. It is like going back in time. Tie up your horse in front of the bar the same way it was done in the Old West. Enjoy a drink and have a chat with the locals.
After breakfast you have one last fun ride on the Estancia at the end of which you will come back for a lovely lunch before departing the Estancia and heading to Buenos Aires city. You will be checking into your hotel in the afternoon and have the remainder of the day at leisure.
The group will reconvene to take some time to visit the city and learn about its icons in a very special way.
You will have a tour of the following places: Plaza de Mayo, Casa Rosada’s balcony, Eva Peron’s home and several other places. Set aside this evening is an introduction to the lover’s dance: tango.
In the evening, you will attend a tango show with dinner and a tango lesson at Complejo Tango before returning to your hotel.
This morning, you will be picked up at 9:00 AM after breakfast and taken to visit the River Plate/ Paraná delta and the surrounding picturesque towns. You will travel on a bus, train and boat as part of this trip.
At Tigre city you will board the boat for a river cruise. Snacks are available onboard (not included). From the boat you will appreciate the exotic subtropical forest of the Paraná river delta, a 14,000 square kilometers area comprising thousands of islands and islets. The River Plate is the ending portion of the Paraná river which is 2,500 miles long and its name means “as big as the sea” in the local Indian language. This is the second largest river in South America (after the Amazon River) and its volume of water flowing into the Atlantic Ocean is roughly equal to the volume of the Mississippi river.
After the cruise you will be taken back to the hotel in Buenos Aires, where you will arrive between 2:30 – 3:00 PM and have time to organize yourself prior to being taken to the international airport to catch your return flight.
