Ride Overview

Hold on to your helmets folks!  We’ve got a crazy fun trip all set in Tunisia – a place we ‘ve long loved for it’s hospitality, wonderful food and easy access!

Discover Bizerte from the saddle, where the rhythm of hoofbeats meets sea breeze and open sky. Horseback riding in and around Bizerte offers a rare and wonderful blend of wild nature and Mediterranean beauty— think golden beaches for long canters, rolling green hills with lovely views, quiet forests, and stretches of untouched countryside just minutes from this northernmost city, literally just across the water from Sardinia and Sicily.

Why do we love this ride?  It’s a dream come true as you ride along the shoreline as waves roll in beside you or venture inland through olive groves and rural trails that reveal the slower, authentic side of northern Tunisia. Whether you’re a first-time rider or an experienced equestrian, these well-trained horses will spirit you away.  AND – we have two options – one for more advanced riders and another for lesser experienced folks or those wanting shorter daily rides.

Sunrise brings cool air and soft light over the sea; sunset paint the landscape in warm golds and deep blues. This week is not just an activity—it’s a moment of connection with nature, tradition, and the timeless bond between horse and rider.

All the while you’ll relax in the intimate and well appointed riad for wonderful meals of traditional Mediterranean fare, after which you can step outside and have a lovely stroll through the city.

General Information:

We offer two riding programes:

Program I: Beginner/Novice Riders
Designed for riders with little to no riding experience, including those who have only ridden a few times. It features 12 riding hours in total. Rides are a combination of relaxed trail rides and easy rides adapted to the level of the group. There is no scripted itinerary for this week.

Program II: Intermediate and Advanced Riders
Ideal for riders confident in all gaits and in open terrain. This programme is a "star" ride with two full-day rides of approximately four to six hours and three half-day rides of approximately two and a half to three and a half hours.

During the stay, you'll enjoy five riding days in total. One non-riding day is included for a shared
excursion to explore the magical Tunisian culture. Depending on group interests and conditions, this may include visits such as Bizerte city, Tunis old town, Carthage, Sidi Bou Said or a guided walk in the area.

The area is also wonderful for diving, snorkeling, kayaking and hiking.

Program II: Intermediate and Advanced Riders

Riding Day 1 – Introductory Ride: Ain Damous Beach & Forest with Ancient Roman Traces

The first half day ride of the week takes us from the ranch onto soft forest trails with sandy ground, offering beautiful views across the surrounding landscape. Riding steadily through the trees, we gradually head toward the sea until the beach of Ain Damous finally comes into view.

This stretch of coastline is hardly accessible on foot and therefore remains almost untouched. With fine sand, crystal-clear water and no crowds, it feels like a hidden place waiting to be discovered on horseback. Here we can let the horses move freely at a trot and enjoy our first canter along the shoreline, while the waves roll gently beside us.

After a short break to let the horses drink, we turn away from the sea and ride back inland. The route leads across open fields and past scattered farmhouses. Part of the way follows an ancient Roman road, whose remains are still clearly visible today. This road was once used to transport goods inland.

During Roman times, Bizerte was a strategically important location, and these are just some of the historical traces you will discover throughout your stay.

The wide, open plains invite us to pick up the pace again, offering opportunities for a faster trot or a playful gallop. This ride beautifully combines the tranquility of an almost deserted beach with cultural history, making it the perfect introduction to a riding holiday full of diverse experiences.

In the evening, your hosts, the owners of the guesthouse, will cook together with you! Everyone who is interested is welcome to join in for a small cooking class, where we prepare a traditional local dish together, before enjoying the meal as a group.

Riding Day 2 – Cap Angela (full-day ride)

This full-day ride begins at the ranch and leads along a narrow forest path down to the sea. Soon, the first beach opens up before us: Ein-der-Muss. This is where the true magic of the day begins. The firm sand allows for long stretches of trotting and galloping, with the sound of the waves on one side and rolling dunes on the other.

We continue riding along the coastline, passing small bays and rocky outcrops, until we finally reach Cap Angela – the northernmost point of Africa. Here we take our break, enjoying fresh sandwiches and a glass of strong, sweet mint tea.

The atmosphere of this unique geographical location, combined with one of the most beautiful views of the Mediterranean, makes this stop truly special.

Refreshed, we begin our return journey, which leads us away from the beach and through the Tunisian countryside. We ride through olive groves, across wide fields and through small villages that reflect the authentic charm and diversity of the region. On the open plains, there are again opportunities for faster sections and small races, before we eventually return to the ranch.

In the evening, we gather at the ranch café for tea and coffee, enjoy traditional sweets, and share stories from the day before heading back to the guesthouse.

Riding Day 3 – A Different Side of Tunisia: Local Life & Panoramic Views (half-day ride)

After the impressive coastal rides, we take things a bit slower today and explore a completely different side of Tunisia. The route leads us along gentle sandy forest paths, out across open fields and through small rural settlements. The terrain becomes more hilly, and wide panoramas open up again and again, reminiscent of Mediterranean landscapes – almost Tuscan in feel, yet bathed in the warm, clear Tunisian light.

Far away from the usual images associated with Tunisia, we encounter an authentic and untouched countryside. We meet shepherds guiding their sheep and goats across the hills, and farmers transporting tools and supplies with donkeys. We regularly stop, dismount and take time for photos, allowing the atmosphere to fully sink in.

The open areas offer long stretches for extended trotting and cantering, setting the rhythm for this ride. No cars reach these remote places – only on horseback are we able to experience this unique environment so closely.

Riding Day 4 – Non-riding Day: Time to Explore

After three days in the saddle, both horses and riders enjoy a well-earned break. Day four is a riding-free day and offers the chance to discover the region from a different perspective.

In the afternoon, we go on a joint excursion with several options to choose from. We may visit the picturesque artist village of Sidi Bou Said, famous for its blue-and-white houses and charming narrow streets. Another option is a trip to Tunis-Carthage, where ancient history meets the modern capital.

For those interested in local life, we can also take the train to explore the market or the old town of Tunis.

In the evening, we go out together for dinner at a restaurant of our choice, depending on where we are that day. It is a relaxed opportunity to connect, share impressions and enjoy the evening together.

Riding Day 5 – Cap Blanc & Les Grottes (full-day ride)

This full-day ride starts at the ranch and soon leads us back toward Ain Damous, before continuing along the coast toward the steep cliffs of Cap Blanc. A breathtaking panorama opens up: rugged cliffs, the deep blue Mediterranean and sunlight reflecting off the limestone formations.

This place tells a story – the golden-yellow sandstone was already quarried in ancient times and used for important buildings in Carthage and even Rome. We take our first break here, enjoying food, photos and the powerful atmosphere of this historic landscape.

The route then continues to the Grottes d’El Haouaria, impressive caves carved into the rock by the Phoenicians and later the Romans to extract valuable sandstone. The steep shafts, hollowed walls and interplay of light and shadow make the passing of millennia almost tangible. We pause here again for photos, a small picnic and quiet moments where nature and history meet.

The return ride leads back over hills, fields and light forest paths, with open sections offering one last energetic trot or gallop. The day slowly comes to an end, filled with impressions of these two remarkable locations.

In the evening, we once again gather at the ranch café for tea, coffee and traditional sweets before returning to the guesthouse.

Riding Day 6 – Viewpoint & Final Impressions (half-day ride)

On our final riding day, we return once more to Ain Damous beach to enjoy long gallops along the sea. Afterwards, the route leads us up into the cliffs. A narrow path winds through dense vegetation, and with every step upward, the view over the coastline becomes wider and more impressive.

At the top, a viewpoint awaits us, offering a completely new perspective on the landscape. We stop to take photos and videos, letting our gaze wander across beaches, fields and rocky cliffs. From there, we ride down the other side of the hill, exploring corners of the region we have not yet seen.

This half-day ride beautifully combines beach, cliffs and open landscapes – a varied and memorable conclusion to the riding week.

Back at the ranch, we end the day in a relaxed atmosphere with coffee, tea and Tunisian sweets, reflecting on the past week together. The final evening often carries a touch of nostalgia – for the horses, the guides and our fellow riders.

Note: Extended Stays

Extended stays can easily be booked, with or without riding. Non-riding companions are very
welcome. Individual programs including cultural visits, city tours, hiking, markets or other
activities can be easily organized.

For those who wish to stay longer, the trip can easily be extended. Additional rides can be booked at special rates, or guests may choose to spend a few more days at our guesthouse. This allows plenty of time to explore Bizerte and the surrounding region at a relaxed pace. We are always happy to help with tips, ideas and organizing further excursions.

Your incredible hosts are flexible and make every effort to work around the group dynamics whenever possible. Their philosophy is simple: they go with the flow.
