Norway – it’s all here – Vikings – fjords – crystalline water…….endless summer days – oh – and the best and most fun Icelandic horses!

This tour offers scenic and demanding rides where the rider is put to the test in different types of terrain.   This ride in the mountains showcase utterly spectacular views and exciting an challenging trails.  This is a perfect ride for all of our very experienced riders who are in good physical shape. You must be able to handle riding in different types of terrain, and in certain steep sections you will need to dismount and  hand walk your  horse.  If you really want to get close to nature, experience spectacular views and test yourself together with these hearty horses – this trips ticks all the boxes!  By way of that, it’s not a good fit for anyone with vertigo or height concerns.

You’ll climb up to what feels like the edge of the clouds, with views in all directions – completely magnificent!  Each day your horses stay in a new location and you are brought back to the guesthouse for an excellent meal and a good rest.

***NOTE: Single rooms can be accommodated on a limited basis. All rooms regardless of shared or single are shared bathrooms. The guesthouse is a new well appointed and comfortable 6 bedroom, 3 bathroom arrangement.

Day 1- Sunday: Arrival and a Midnight Sun Ride

Check in after 16:00 at the guest house.. Sit back and enjoy the scenic views and perhaps take a walk on the white sandy beach just 100 meters from the guesthouse before dinner and meeting of the horses in the pasture nearby.

Dinner in the restaurant where you’ll be introduced to delicious dishes made from fresh, local ingredients. You will meet your guide for the week. We’ll go through the week’s program together and you’ll get to know the history of the restaurant.

Straight away on this first evening, we’ll have a 3-hour midnight sun ride (approx. 15-20 km). You will be introduced to the horses and stables and will learn more about the history of the area and the old Viking settlement here. The ride will start at 10 p.m. and be back at the stables at 2 a.m. Our special goal is to for a hidden beach where you can try different gaits with your horse. And don't worry - at midnight we take a break with some snacks and drinks.

Can you imagine???? Riding after midnight in a place where it's a light as midday? Totally magical!

Day 2 - Monday: Trip to Storknubben

We have a late breakfast after yesterday’s midnight sun tour.

At 12 noon, we start the ride towards Storknubben with open views to the north of Lofoten (approx. 300 metres above sea level). It’s a 20 kilometre hike with lots of climbing. After a picnic saddlebag lunch, you can join a guided hike to the top of Storknubben (600 metres above sea level). Or, you can also just relax and enjoy the view and the silence.

After the hike, we ride down to Gjendalen where we leave our horses for the night. We will be transported back to the farm and enjoy a delicious dinner.

Day 3 - Tuesday: Half-day trip home from Gjendalen and beach trip

After breakfast we drive up to pick up horses in Gjendalen. Once mounted, we stop at Vinjedalen and ride down to Vinjestranden and test different gaits on the beach.

We enjoy a simple lunch with our horses available outside our local small shop on Gimsøy and soak up the local atmosphere before our day concludes.

Back at the guesthouse, time in the hot sauna and a potential swim in the Arctic Ocean await you before dinner in the restaurant.

Day 4 - Wednesday: Veten on Vestvågøy

After breakfast we make our departure to Vestvågøy – We actually start in Tjønndalen where our horses are waiting for us. We ride up the mountain and end up at the top of Veten (400 metres above sea level). A spectacular view meets us at the top.

We ride down to enjoy a lunch at Aaland farm. After lunch we ride back to Tjønndalen to leave our horses for the night before heading back to the guesthouse and dinner.

Day 5 - Thursday: Slydalen and Kamman

After breakfast we head back to Tjønndalen and meet our horses again. This time we head further west and ride towards Vendalsjord before riding up Slydalen and towards Vårliheia, up to Kamman (400 metres above sea level) and Djupdalen. W
e enjoy the view and ride back down to Tjønndalen after lunch on the mountain and then are taken back to the guesthouse. Today is a marvelous day of many good tolts and canters!

Day 6 - Friday - day at leisure

After a very active week, we suggest a later breakfast, after which, we suggest a guided hike to a suggested mountain or a visit to Henningsvær and spend the day at this picturesque fishing village after lunch.

Dinner and overnight at the guesthouse.

Day 7 - Saturday: Over the mountain to Unstad

After breakfast, we head to Tjønndalen to meet our horses. We ride down Løvdalen and towards Bøstad where we cross the mountains to Saupstad.

We enjoy a good lunch at Lofoten Gardsysteri before riding the last stretch up and down the old road to Unstad where the tour ends at the beach!

Returning back to the guesthouse, we enjoy a tasting menu at the farm.

Day 8 - Departure

Enjoy a final breakfast in the restaurant – Check out at 12 p.m. to depart this area and take home unforgettable memories of gastronomic delights and amazing riding adventures!
