Ride Overview
Mosey on over to the heart of the Wild West and ride with us at the historic Kay El Bar Ranch. Built in the early 1900s, all of the buildings are testaments to a time gone by. Handmade of adobe brick for the original occupants by the local Maripcopa Indians, it’s truly a gift to step back in time and stay at this gem of a ranch – it’s even listed on the National Historic Register!
It’s a perfect place to enjoy the landscape and incredible biodiversity of the Sonoran desert – and of course – the best way is on a horse! Your trusty mount is well schooled in navigating the landscape and taking you on fun lopes through the scrub. And if you’re looking for a way to bond a bit more with them, try your hand at team penning! The ranch sits on 100 private acres but your daily rides will never be dull as you have access to over 2,000 BLM lands.
When not riding, it’s all about relaxing out here in the desert. Sit by the pool or in the hot tub, go hiking, visit the charming and adorable town of Wickenburg a few miles away or even visit one of the nearby golf courses. No matter what you opt for in a day, with only 28 guests onsite at the very most, you’ll come away with friends that have become family.

All was well with the trip and no concerns with the ranch. It is a lovely place and Stephanie and Kyle were very nice. We had a great time there and have no regrets.
Just so others know, Kay El Bar is not a 5 star resort, more like 3 – 4 stars. If someone is looking for a fancy place where your every wish is catered to, this is not the place. No housekeeping is provided in your rooms during the stay and the accommodations are basic but comfortable. The food was plentiful (too much food for me), but was healthy well prepared.
The town of Wickenburg is close by and you can go there for meals and shopping. Turns out this is the roping capital of the US and there are lots of arenas that offer competitions every day. Horses everywhere.
The rides in the desert offered lots of different scenery. For those that can really ride, there are only few options to do more than a walk. But I would recommend the ranch to those wanting a less fancy ranch experience in a smaller setting.
Thanks again for the care and support you provided!
