Ride Overview
G’day Mate – and welcome to an amazing and truly authentic ranch and cattle station in outback Queensland Australia.
This is a real true blue Aussie experience – over 9000 acres of a tried and true, dust on your boots Australian working cattle and sheep station. Steeped in history, it was originally settled in the 1840s and became known for world class fine wool. The charming property is home to so much wildlife – such as emus, kangaroos, wallabies, giant goanna, koalas and you may even spot a platypus! This is Australia at its incredible best!
It’s vast landscape overlooks magnificent hills and valleys as far as the eye can see. This will be a stay for the memory books of all time!
The property has five rustic out buildings, including the main homestead and the shearing shed with quaint rustic accommodation where you will stay – complete with wonderful wood fires for the cozy cool nights. It also has 3 additional little huts for guest stays that are original dwellings – all of which are beautifully outfitted.
Standing tall amongst the property are big gum trees native to Australia, where you may spot a gorgeous koala. So be sure to keep an eye out for these sweet and docile animals.
The week of riding starts with you being greeted by an Australian kelpie working dog, then you will be matched up with your amazing Australian stockhorse, using a comfortable Australian stock saddle. These beautiful horses are sought after for mustering cattle and used in the Australian sport of camp drafting. They are athletic, forward going, responsive and well mannered.
During the days of riding, you have several brook and river crossings that add adventure to the rides.
And not to worry – you’ll be well supplied and will definitely not go hungry as Amanda and Gail are amazing cooks with home made cakes, Australian damper (bread cooked over an open fire) and good Aussie tucker (slang for food – typically a hearty meals such as a barbecue, meat pie, etc.). Look at you – getting the hang of the lingo already!
You will be riding over amazing country, mustering cattle and sheep and maybe the odd wild goat.. Along the ride you will be brought morning tea made true blue with a Billy (another term to add to your lexicon – we’ll let you look that one up on your own!), then ride to a large brook or a hut for a delicious lunch. Later in the afternoon, you’ll head back for a hearty home made dinner.
Some mornings you’ll wake up to a big breakfast, on the shearing quarters verandah, cooked by Marcus, he even does the dishes!
Bring your sense of adventure. You will never forget it, a real Australian experience awaits!
