California's Coast and Beach RideThis is an amazing ride, one that our clients rave about time and time again and with good reason – every part of it is sensational.  Based in the coastal town of Mendocino, a sleepy hillside village made famous in the TV series “Murder, She Wrote”.  It is a quaint and quiet town filled with charming shops and excellent restaurants, perfect for strolling in the evenings after riding.

During the day you will canter along deserted ocean beaches, ride the bluffs while the Pacific crashes against rocks far below and meander on mossy trails through the magnificent Redwood Forest on Northern California’s rugged Mendocino Coast.  This is an area of amazing beauty, teeming with wildlife and a place where time moves at its own pace.  The wraiths of Russian, Spanish and English adventurers cling to this isolated part of America.

The horses are mixed breeds Akhal-Teke, Russian Orlov crosses and Arabians – many of whom have excelled in dressage, jumping and competitive trail.  They are your perfect partners for this ride.  In addition, there are Appaloosa and Quarter Horses in the herd, all of whom are well trained and can be ridden both English and Western.  You will be sure to fall in love with them!

This ride ranges for many miles along ocean beaches, through a working cattle ranch and up into the coastal mountain range richly covered with towering conifers and showcasing views that stretch on for as far as the eye can see.  Your lodging is at the luxurious Mendocino Hotel or the Hill House Inn of Mendocino, overlooking the village, complete with elegant dining including fine California wine, delightful hot tubs under the stars (for an extra fee) and internationally acclaimed musicians in the evenings (entertainment varies per week).

This will be a fun and memorable ride in an area of California that is not often explored – and certainly the trails you will ride are some of the only trails that offer this type of riding, especially when it comes to cantering down miles of open sandy beach.

Lari and her staff were very warm and generous, and took very good care of us. The scenery was spectacular, the horses healthy and well cared for, and also took good care of us. By about day four, our old bodies started to rebel and we were able to slow our pace and walk the trails while younger bodies were still able to gallop off up the trail, which we very much appreciated. The hotel was lovely. We will definitely recommend the trip to others.
Thanks for your help!
